The Saratoga Springs Public Library is pleased to announce that, by popular vote of the community, The Soul of an Octopus, by Sy Montgomery, is the 2026 SaratogaREADS! selection. 

To celebrate, we have planned a family-friendly bus trip to the New England Aquarium, in Boston, on Saturday, February 21, 2026. 

WHY?  
The Soul of an Octopus details Sy Montgomery’s deep, personal research and friendships with octopuses at the New England Aquarium. The book focuses on the intelligence and emotions of octopuses, especially through specific residents like Athena and Octavia. The aquarium even named an octopus after Sy!

DETAILS:
We will depart at 8:00 am from the Wilton Mall parking area C2 (near Dick’s). The bus will stop for a comfort break on the way to Boston. We will arrive at the aquarium around 11:45 am. Attendees will have the day free to explore the aquarium (ticket included in cost), add on the aquarium movie, have lunch, and explore the surrounding areas. The bus will depart from the aquarium at 5:00 pm to head home, with another comfort stop along the way.
