Broadcast Journalist and Children’s Book Author

Julie Chapman is a three-time Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist with more than 35 years of professional news experience. She is also an Edward R. Murrow Award winner for excellence in video storytelling. She helped debut Spectrum News 1 Albany when it first hit the airwaves back in 2002. She currently works as the lead anchor for the station’s state-wide morning show. Prior to this, Julie worked as an anchor and reporter at various television stations from Binghamton to Baltimore. 

In addition to broadcast journalism, Julie is a national award-winning author. She has written two children’s books that celebrate the magical moments of the holiday seasons. Julie’s first book, Witches, Bats, and Mystical Cats, won a national Moonbeam Award, and was named the Outstanding Creator Awards’ 2022 Children’s Book of the Year. The critic review called her writing “masterful,” and her poetry, “upbeat, fun, and enjoyable.” They wrote, “Chapman offers up tasty poetic versus that give children a lot to think about.” 

Her follow-up book, Santa, Elves, and Magical Bells, is also a national award winner. It was named Best Holiday Book of 2024 by the Book Excellence, National Indie, Book Fest, and Outstanding Creator Awards.  

Dedicated to giving back, Julie is passionate about mentoring and youth empowerment programs. She hosts numerous school assemblies throughout the year where she talks with students about the importance of reading, writing, imagination, and self-expression.
